I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Manhas's passing but amazed to think of his longevity. Had I known he was still alive all these years, I would have happily communicated with him. He was a great part of the chemistry tradition brought about by his friend and colleague Ajay Bose. Dr. Manhas's piercing eyes, hearty voice, and booming laughter will always remain in my memory. I suspect that he and Ajay are making beta-lactams in the chemistry labs in Heaven. Jeff Seeman '67, another organic chemist. The photograph, from ca. 1967 with postdoctoral student Rao. We will love and miss him always! He was a strong, positive influence in our lives. He was also a very loving and playful grandfather and great-grandfather. We will always remember him.

He was one of my professors at Stevens, and everyone who ever had him as a teacher (or just encountered him on campus) invariably has a story about him that they remember with fondness. I haven't seen him in over 30 years, but can still call to mind his voice.

Dr. Manhas was our guruji, because my husband and I considered him and respected him as our guruji. We spent such a wonderful years together when my husband was an assistant professor at Stevens. We feel emptiness in our heart without him. May God give an eternal peace to his great soul. Our prayers are with the family members.

I remember taking chemistry with Professor Manhas. My friends and I still say things to each other he used to say: "You cannot sit by the side of the road and ask for help. You must get up and walk!" What a wonderful teacher.
